Creating Surprise...(from Spunk and Bite)

Here is the slide with the sentences reprinted from "Spunk & Bite: A Writer's Guide to Bold, Contemporary Style," Random House, 2007, copyright Arthur Plotnik 2007.  We will go over these tomorrow.  Remember that you can use a phrase if it calls for it, just don't be common or boring, DO make sense.

Hi,

As the author of SPUNK & BITE, I'm flattered to see this excerpt used as an exercise and hope students have fun with it. But please note that a credit should read: Reprinted from "Spunk & Bite: A Writer's Guide to Bold, Contemporary Style," Random House, 2007, copyright Arthur Plotnik 2007. Best wishes.

Thank you for your outstanding book, SPUNK & BITE. I have a classroom full of teenage writers who all enjoyed your chapter and exercise that I shared with them. Your book was one of the first that I began reading to my Creative Writing class as part of our curriculum last year and is a natural fit for my group of ambitious writers. Thanks once again for your encouraging words.
